When he dies, that will be the last of it. It will be gone forever. I had no hopes of ever getting it from him. Yesterday afternoon I went to Gray-Horse to interview his brother, Mon-in-ka-mon-in. He said that he never learned the rituals, that when he acted as A-ki-hon-Xo-Ka his brother N. had to prompt him all the way through.

I am now reduced to the fragments that may be in the possession of my host, E-'zhi-a-xri of Hominy and Wa-shin'ha of Pawhuska. When I get through with my host I shall make my way in the direction of Hominy.

Last night my host gave the story of a sort of a demi-god, and this morning I spent some time in making an artistic sketch of it. It is nearly done. I stopped to write you this letter so that you may not be long without word from me.

It escaped my mind to tell you of my meeting a Pawnee here and of my asking him about the definition of the word, Cha-go'-a. He said that it could not be analyzed, that it is simply understood to mean the Seven Little Stars. I hope Mr. Sutton will be satisfied with this. Had there been any other definition you surely would have secured it and recorded it.

I must now stop and write to a man at Ralston who has a tattooing bundle. If I can't get it from him I want to take notes of its contents.

Thank you for last Sunday's paper -
