that made the people willing to help the R.C. work.

Charley Robinson and his wife gave a feast to the Omahas and the Osage visitors. They sent me a special invitation and so I went. The occasion was in honor of two sons who are now in France fighting. It was at this feast I was called upon to make an address, and as the gathering was in connection with the war I made my address mostly on that subject. There were certain things the people did not quite understand and in my address I made them clear. It was quite an impressive scene. An English officer came there in an auto with some Americans and the object of the gathering was explained to him. The feast was really given to some young men who are going soon to the front. All these young men were given front seats. They went to greet the officer and each one gave military salute before they shook hands with him. The officer came to the exercises after the feast and I persuaded him to give us a short address. He hesitated at first because he was in uniform but he finally consented when I explained to him that many of the Omahas had sons in France and others were on their way and they would like to hear from an officer who had recently come from there
