Mr. O.G. Simmons-----2

fly wheel weighs 23 lbs. but it is hardly heavy enough for our four cylinder motor.

Some time ago I saw a roller bearing manufactured by some German concern and handled by the Norma Company of America at 24 Vessey Street, New York City, which impressed me as being a very good thing. It, however, will not stand any side thrusts whatever, but I cannot see that there should be any particular side thrusts on the big crank end. It is claimed that these bearings will carry a heavier load than the regular ball bearings. I do not think that this bearing is to be considered at all in the same class with the American roller bearings, most of which I believe are of a rather inferior quality. This roller bearing I believe to be quite easy to put on and take off of your crank. I was not particularly interested in the bearing at the time, becuase we had no particular place to use it, but I think you would do well to investigate its qualities for your purpose. The eight cylinder motor which we had on the racer at Belmont, weighed just about 1-1/2 times as much as our four cylinder, so that I think your estimate for your eight cylinder is about correct.

It would appear to me that your greatest difficulty in preparing for the Gordon-Bennett will be the motor. We generally find that new designs require a good deal of time in getting out the first motor.

We are now having some very light pistons built up ^[[(]] which we will be testing in a week or two ^[[)]] that are made
