A Message from the promoters of the "Showdown at St. Kilda"

I'm proud to have been a part of this fine team that has worked so very hard to stage the "Showdown at St. Kilda". We have spanned the globe in a spirit of co-operation with many gentlemen from the United States to stage this event.

Throughout the entire promotion, they have acted with dignity and professionalism. It is our intention to work with our "mates" from the U.S.A. again in the near future to bring other exciting events to Australia. We have very high hopes of luring the Heavyweight Champion of the World, Muhammad Ali, here to defend his crown within the year.

The success of this afternoon's show was dependent upon the Australian people - the greatest sports fans in the world. We are in your debt and hope that the show will be repayment in kind for your support.

We thank you.

The road to the "Showdown at St. Kilda" has not been an easy one. It has required a tremendous amount of teamwork, enthusiasm and possibly most important - faith.

We have had the faith in this promotion from the outset and through a co-operative effort have been able to re-kindle that faith through many adversities.

The historic heavyweight show that takes place today, will be seen via satellite in millions of homes throughout the world from Melbourne. Today, the sporting eyes of the world will be on the Junction Oval at St. Kilda.

We certainly could not have achieved any measure of our goals had it not been for the tremendous support of you - the fans, local business and the media. We feel confident that the show will be worthy of your support.
It is our sincere hope that through the efforts of this promotion, a world heavyweight championship fight can be brought to Australia.

We are proud of our association with this event and we look ahead with great anticipation to future endeavors in Melbourne.

"Most Victorians are either active participants in or supporters of a wide variety of sports and over recent years Melbourne has been the venue for many international sporting competitions.

I am very pleased that Victoria and particularly St. Kilda has been chosen as the stage for "Showdown". this is an event to which followers of boxing from all over the world have been looking forward for some time.

I feel certain that those of you here today and those watching through television will witness an excellent competition."

Yours sincerely,
