[[underlined]] Bismarck [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] July 25 [[/underlined]], Sunday. Finished reports and journals & notes up to date. Repacked outfit and mailed packages to Streeter at Medora.

[[underlined]] July 26 [[/underlined]]. Saw Gov. Burke, but he refused collecting permit on grounds that the Dept. of Agrl. is not an incorporated society of Nat. Hist. Suggested I become an agent of a N. Dak. Society of Nat. Hist. & arrange with them to receive my specimens & send part of them on to Dept. of Agrl.

I said I would leave N. Dak. on the first train, which I had already arranged to do.

Took 3 P.M. train south to Linton enroute for Rosco & west along the Milwaukee R.R. Had to stay all night at Linton & wait for train to Rocoe.

From McKenzie south to Linton the country is prairie with sloughs and some creeks cutting through to the west.
