Fort Wood, Bedloe Island, N.Y. Harbor. Sept.5, '17 Is it a dream or did it really happen? When I arrived here from York Harbor [[One Circled]] in company of [[Max?]] Hannigten's [[?]] mother, Mrs. Mikellson[[?]], I found two letters waiting for me. One was from [[strikethrough]]?[[/strikethrough]] Ruth; the other was a call for a registered letter. In due time (15 minutes, perhaps, for I was curious)I called for the latter and found the expected, and yet unexpected, notice from the War Department. The notice contained fare to N.Y. City so I decided to go to N.Y.C. at once since my pals, Anthony Gallagher, John Williams, and other "pineapples" of the Bridgeport crowd were returning to Bridgeport on the midnight train. I hurried about, packed, bade goodbye to many of my friends, kissed my poor dear mother and bravely? embarked for a destination known as "Fort Wood". I arrived in N.Y. at a quarter to eight and asked information concerning Fort
