Wood. After a deal of inquiry I discovered that the place of my destination ^[[circled]]2[[/circled]] was none other than Bedloe Island, lying in the center of New York Harbor, and crowned with the glorifying Statue of Liberty Enlighting the World.

Upon reporting I found that the Seargant Major to whom I presented my credentials was none other than one T.T. Teague, a Framingham young man who has been in the regular army since 1912, and who is now posted here after doing transport duty to France. This pleasant officer set me right. I had the unutterable pleasure (?) of being jabbed by a physician for typhoid and [[strikethrough]] scarlet fever [[/strikethrough]] ^[[small pox]]. Then I was outfitted (partly) and took account of my surroundings.

This post is edifying - a jewel in the ocean. The Statue is all commanding.
