Bayonne N.J. lies to the South and the Jersey coast is directly across a small mile of water. The water in the ^[[circled]]5[[/circled]]  lower bay is full of barks and tramp ships of all manner of description. A long iron-clad hulk lies directly off the dock at the island and I see painted on the side - "Trexel - of Rotterdam". I wonder if it will get across with its cargoe.......

This post is as good as I ever want to attend, but I do not doubt that living in such restricted quarters will soon grow monotonous. Its wonderful sky line of the City beckons behind the battery. It is facile to reach Times Square and 42nd st, and I must soon get leave to stretch my legs on New York's solidity before we leave for Canada - if that is where we're going.
