"Forced landing" - engine dies and you have to descend and hurriedly pick out your landing ground.

Engine "konking" - engine doesn't "rev." it's proper number, or misses, or dies a natural demise. 

"give it the gun" - open the throttle. 

"gliding distance" - for every thousand feet you go up, you can glide 6 thousand or so with the engine off. Quite a factor in a "forced landing."

"Fuselage" - body of machine without the wings or tail plane. [[image of fuselage with propeller at one end]]

"crash" - explains itself. The aviator's expression for cutting capers with the [[underline]] hard, solid [[/underline]] earth.
