Happy New Year! It's not very good to be spending the first day of the New Year in a hospital according to the best practises of superstitious persons, but since I'm not a superstitious person I'll shout for joy because from all appearances I'll be out of doors again this very afternoon. And I hope never to be obliged to go to an army hospital again so long as I live. Amen!

One of the most interesting topics for discussion regarding the soldiers' life is that which has to do with the food he gives to his mind. Reading is the greatest pastime to idle away spare hours; cards and sewing circle gossiping coming second. Among the mechanics and riggers the questionable joy of dice gambling is the main pastime when money is plentiful; if our air mechanic or rigger wants to
