The engine "reved" 1400 and after half an hour it began to get hard to gain further altitude with ease; After an hour and a quarter I had reached 9100, however, and then spent fifteen minutes in a vain trial to go further. The earth below was surrounded by the light haze peculiar to this country and the ground immediately below was all that was plainly visible and in this view the plots of black and yellow earth were as large as table tops. After remaining at this stage long enough to appreciate a bird's eye view of things I "spiraled" down and went up on the "instructor's Test". In the latter we have a test that equals the one which we must pass in the U.S. Corps before we obtain a commission. I refer to the R.M.A. (Reserve Military Aviator's) test, which is exceedingly easy to do and is a farce as far as the present day status of flying is concerned. The  R.F.C.
