Another recapitulation of sorts from the days of saying "au revoir" to England: [[underline]] March 29 1918 [[/underline]]   

It was a usual dreary day of landing at the French ^[[Le Havre]] Port and the bugaboo of rain, that seems determined to locate me whenever I make important trips, was with me as of yore. The officer who met us at the gang-plank insisted that we (Schuur and I, of course) "go out to the Rest Camp and remain for orders to proceed". But not if we knew it; we much preferred to spend a little more time and money for the quiet and material rest of a real hotel rather than take what the camps with their ^[[present]] makeshift conditions offered. So to appease the officious Lieutenant we discommoded ourselves to the extent of riding out to the camp and having our baggage "smashed" - and we turned right
