Tours contained much of interest to me in the time that I had ^[[had]] to walk about the town. The river Loire winds through the environs and is crossed by a number of stone bridges that are pleasant to stand upon [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] ^[[to watch the]] river, fisherman, and the people who cross. An even better experience was that which lead me to the historical Cathedrale St. Gatien, and ^[[which]] made me make a [[torn?]] of the worn tiles past the many side chapels, and to go 'way up into the tower, via the tiny steps that are so worn that the slope is almost continuous and the climb a tiresome piece of work. The view from the top is quite marvelous, and unlike the aeroplane view, is fixed and allows more liberal study of old buildings, correct-cut gardens and the  winding river.
