There is a great deal of activity in the building line in this American sector, there's a war going on.  It is hard to realize that the trenches are so near when, ^[[the inhabitants of]] this beautiful country [[strikethrough]]in[[/strikethrough]] ^[[to]] all appearances pays no more attention to conditions other than to raise the price of most commodities for the benefit of the American who is eager to pay any amount demanded......
The 1st and 12th Aero Squadrons are now camped, not far from our hilltop.  Their hangars are not camouflaged to any extent, the only precaution being to separate them so that one bomb won't do too much damage.  Many of our original R.F.C. men transferred to the reconnaissance ^[[Salmsons, Breguets]]group and when we asked them how it was to drive the
