My Flight Commander- as nonchalantly as usual, told us when our machines are finally equipped (they are almost ready now) that we'll head for the lines ourselves. [[underline]] And [[/underline]] he told Russell and me that the first time over he'll lead us to our baptism of Archie Fire.
"What did you do when your first Anti Aircraft burst went off?" I asked
"Jumped about a foot out of my seat", [ [[strikethrough]] the Captain [[/strikethrough]] ] ^[[Putnam]] answered. "The burst is just a [[underline]] [['burnup'?]] [[/underline]] and the shrapnel scatters over a sphere of perhaps 250 yds. Outside of that you're all right. I don't bother to [[strikethrough]] dogde [[/strikethrough]] dodge." Amen!

Transcription Notes:
"Arhir" probably should be "Archie," slang for anti-aircraft fire.
