July 7th.
I was tuckered out this morning but I answered and alert at 8 o'clock with Lt. Putnam. We went behind the German lines towards Thiaucourt and chased the Hun biplane who had been causing the complaints. Putnam shot at him but I believe he got away.
Putnam's gun jammed and he went home. Lt. [[Malone?]] then appeared and lead me a merry chase. He must have wanted trouble very badly for he climbed to 5000 meters (the very best I can get out of "Smitts", my bus) and headed due north way up toward Conflans. It was foolhardy to do it buy we went clear in and were archied heavily for our pains on the way out. We'd had a party the previous night you see.
