We were thereupon severely archied on gaining our own lines. As in the former case the credit may rightfully go to St. Putnam but it is just for me to claim my claim for my shots were surely doing their share of damage. If I were experienced and a crack shot I'd have had the Hun in a second as my position was excellent; as it is, however, I could only aim and learn. 'Twas a grand and glorious tussle but contrary to usual tactics we were much stronger than the enemy and it would have been unforgivable to have lost that biplace.
Another hair raiser was a forced landing yesterday morning when my nourrice (the extra supply tank contained in the top wing just over the pilots' head) gave out and I hadn't the altitude nor time to get back on
