To go back into Hunland chasing a bold bad German observation machine is quite all right for us when we have a decisive objective like that.  But these protection patrols seem to be to be waste of time gasoline, wear and tear and for no far sighted gain.
Here's hoping Mac is safe and that he succeeded in destroying his machine. 
[Two months later we learned of a note dropped by a German flier to the effect that Mac was shot down (by archie, I presume) and broke his hip in landing. At this report he was still alive and will undoubtedly go home after the war and live to a ripe old age.  His home is in Newton, Mass.]
