As usual this one was full of various classes of French soldiers and we saw the decorating of a few of the heroes, which exercises included "Le Marseillaise" a "human" yet dignified general, a reading of the citation, a kissing of the check, and beaucoup saluting in the graceful and easy manner.

I liked best of all to observe that honest French salute which to me appears as the ideal of all salutes. To see an exchange of that simple and effective lifting of the open palm between officers or officers and men gives me a peek at a sign of discipline and - camaraderie between recognized comrades.
