At dinner Captain Epstein invited several of us to ride to Vaucouleurs with him and Hall was the only one from our table to go. Half an hour later when Charlie Baber and Gervey Grylls and I were in Charlies room in comes Hall all nervous and apprehensive. The Big White had skidded just outside of camp and all but Hall and another out of eight were rather badly injured. Hall has had a similar remarkably narrow escape by diving into the tonneau's cover just before a turnover. And he had a forced landing day before yesterday on his way to Remerantin; and just before that when he fired a Nieuport to Chaumont the engine broke its supports - yet he got there. Beats me!
