Dear Ted:

I completely forgot to tell you over the telephone last night when you were good enough to call me, that just that very day I had started some negotiations in connection with your large LEGER painting. Of course I have no idea whatsoever whether they will lead up to anything, but what I am most anxious about is that for the coming six or seven weeks, you will not let yourself be approached on this topic without posting me...not even by Roger, as those people know that it was exhibited at the museum under his name.

It happens in our business that competitors, hearing of such negotiations, might try and take the lead - which could only be detrimental to you and me, and confuse the issue.

Should this materialize in any way, I may ask you to let me have the painting here at the galleries, or perhaps may take my clients to your studio?

With kind regards,

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Seligman)
