Dear Mr. Seligman:

I've always had the collecting urge, but did not turn my attention to Master Drawings until recently, when I had the opportunity to visit Mrs. Herbert Straus. Her splendid collection has been a great inspiration to me over the last three years, and even though similar quality drawings are harder to find today,I have managed a few "finds".

One of my latest acquisitions is a large (16x20) pen, ink, and wash drawing showing Abraham meeting with King Melchizek. Judging by the best available references it was executed by J.B. Corneille. It certainly bears very strong stylistic similarities to your SIGNED Corneille so far as I can determine from the reproduction.

However,it is really impossible to be sure without seeing the original, and I am writing to you with the hope that you might allow me to view your Corneille sometime at your convenience.

Sincerely yours,
