Dear Mr. Lichti:

As per our telephone conversation last week, I am enclosing an engraver's proof of the Fragonard painting "Tivoli Stairway" formerly in the Mortimer Schiff collection. As I explained to you, we hope to include this reproduction in our fall publication "The Nature of Art," by Katharine Kuh of the Art Institute of Chicago.

We would very much appreciate it if you could tell us what collection this painting is in now, so that we can write for permission. I believe you said on the phone that it may be in a private collection in London, and I hope you can give us some details on this.

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Sincerely yours,
