Mr. Germain Seligman
5 East 57th Street
New York 22

Dear Mr. Seligman:

Thank you for your most agreeable and friendly letter. It is good of you to have allowed yourself to be bothered with our quest for information about the marble Virgin, and of course I am disappointed that our forlorn hope has not been rewarded in your early recollection! I doubt that I shall ever even find out why the Frick Art Reference Library has chosen to designate the figure as"Wrapped Virgin," unless someone, remembering the rapturous saintliness of Bernini's ladies, has misspelled "rapt."

It is pleasant to share your recollection of those two mutual friends, Francis Taylor and Preston Remington. In dying, each in his own way has removed from our life in New York qualities that I valued and enjoyed.

With all appreciation, and with good greetings, I am

Yours sincerely,
