My dear Mr. Marcus:

You must know that to an author, even though he might not be a professional one, there could not be a greater form of flattery than to refer to his book.

Though I realize it is not in that spirit that you sent me your very pleasant note of March 10, I do want you to know how much I appreciate the kind thought which prompted you to write to me.

The parallel you draw between women's styles and the cycles in art are indeed true. They both are part and elements of a philosophy of life, and furthermore may I say that from the reputation you have your creations in the field of fashion are also great works of art.
