is a luminous example of the art of the great Fleming, Gerard David, [[underlined]] The Coronation of the Virgin [[/underlined]]. The great Spanish Baroque painter, Zurbarán, is represented by two large paintings, a characteristically austere and stately portrait and, especially notable, the large and beautiful [[underlined]] Birth of the Virgin [[/underlined]]. Also from the 17th century is an outstanding example of Dutch landscape painting, [[underlined]] The View of Overschie [[/underlined]] by Van Goyen, as well as two fine sculpted portrait busts of the Baroque period.

Among numerous 18th century pictures, high points are a courtly portrait by the fashionable French painter, Nattier, and a marvelous view of [[underlined]] The Bay of Posilipo [[/underlined]] by Vernet. Two major cubist paintings by Braque as well as several important German expressionist works take the selection dramatically into the 20th century.

A special educational program including gallery talks and guest lectures will be offered by the Museum in conjunction with the exhibition, which will also be used by the faculties of the local universities for teaching purposes. A fully illustrated catalogue is currently being compiled to be available in mid-winter.

Mr. Simon, Industrialist and civic leader, states that he chose The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston as a temporary home for a selection from his extensive collections because of his recognition of this Museum's activity in the all important area of acquisitions and its logical application, education.
