Dear Mr. Seligmann,

This is to tell you that I am writing a book on French furniture by the eighteenth century Paris ébénistes, and have assembled over two hundred photographs of pieces in museums and private collections in France, England and the United States.

I believe that you purchased in the Henry Walters sale of 1941, lot 699, a bonheur-du-jour; lot 700, an oval table; lot 1410, a commode; and lot 1411, a secretaire.

I possess photographs of these articles, and if you have no objection, I will illustrate them as belonging to you. On the other hand, if you no longer own them, perhaps you will be kind enough to let me know who owns them now, so that I can write for permission to use their name in my book.

Yours sincerely,
