New York, New York

Dear Mr. Seligmann,

I am a graduate student in the history of art at the University of California at Berkeley, specializing in French painting of the seventeenth century. This summer I am visiting several American collections to see paintings in my field. Much of the literature mentions paintings by artists like Vouet, Bourdon, and Champagne in your collection, and I would very much like to see these works if they are still in your possession.

Unfortunately I am on a rather tight schedule, and can only spend a brief time in New York City, August 12 through 14, Monday through Wednesday. I have no idea of your situation, but would it be possible for me to see these paintings sometime during those days?

I would appreciate your cooperation in this matter and hope to hear from you as soon as possible, since my trip begins July 27. Thank you very much.

Respectfully yours,
