Dear Mr. Seligman,

Please accept our apologies for the delay in returning your receipt for the shipment of the Harpignies drawing. As you know, the drawing was a surprise Christmas gift for me and it was not until some days after the holiday that our neighbor brought us the papers and your very kind letter and by that time we were in the midst of a great flurry of activity getting my husband ready for a trip to India. I do hope that the delay has not caused you any concern. The drawing arrived in perfect condition.

I must tell you that I was completely surprised and truly thrilled by the gift. It is such a rich, strong, and vibrant drawing. It is a really exciting addition to our rather modest collection and I am most happy that my husband found it in your show.

Can you tell us anything more about it's provenance after it passed out the the hands of Arnold and Tripp? I would also be interested in knowing, for the Museum, where you have french mats made. we have a number of drawings which need them and cannot find anyone in the Detroit area to do a first class job.

Please also be good enough to let me know if you have any Daubigny drawings. He is an artist in whom I am very much interested.
