Dear Mrs. Spink:

What a pl[[strikethrough]] w [[/strikethrough]] ^[[e]] letter indeed you wrote, and I am so very happy to learn from your lines of January 5th how much you enjoyed receiving the Harpignies drawing. It is by all means a very fine and very fresh one.

I also wish to express my appreciation for your returning the shipping advice, for the confirmation of its safe arrival was much on my mind, and I was about to write your husband on this topic.

You may be disappointed to learn that Arnold and Tripp is the only pedigree I have. In fact, I identified their initials - if I am not mistaken, they are on the back of the drawing - a few years ago in connection with another work of art, and communicated them to Mr. Lugt.

Now, as to the name of our mat maker, he is

Mr. Levoko Siloti
Gaylordsville, Connecticut.

I should warn you that he has met with an accident and is only now recovering. Furthermore, he is rather slow in carrying out his orders. This, on the other hand, is compensated by the excellence of his work.

At present, answering your query, I have no Daubigny drawings - I had a couple some time ago - but I shall be glad to bear in mind your interest in his achievements.

I did not suspect that your husband was about to leave for India, and I do hope that it will be a successful trip.

Again, many thanks for your nice note, and with all good wishes for the New Year,

Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
