^[[Corres with letter to Mrs. Trygger]]

TO: RECORDS

FROM: MR. GERMAIN SELIGMAN MARCH 19, 1951

[[line]]

MISS BAZNER, I am turning over to you the color reproduction from Life Magazine, December 12, 1949, of painting by RAPHAEL:

"God Creates Eve from Adam".

This painting was proposed by Mrs. Great Trygger (friend of John J. Cunningham) March 1951.

It is very close to one representing a similar subject in the Kress Collection, Washington, attributed to Fra Bartholomeo. The attribution to Raphael is backed by Giuseppe Fiocco, and also [[strikethrough]] parzy [[/strikethrough]] partly by an old certificate from Dr. Suida, 1925, who however meanwhile has changed his opinion.

Also by Dr. Theodore Frimmel.

The original price asked was $100,000 (one hundred thousand dollars), but I understand Mrs. Trygger would have been willing to accept considerably less such as $35,000 (thirty-five thousand dollars).

Modestini told me that he had discussed this painting with John Walker and both had decided it was of no interest.
