On July 9th, the curator proceeded to Point Lookout, Maryland, for the purpose of gaining much needed rest, and also to make a careful study of the fauna and flora of the locality for purpose of comparison with those of a locality of similar latitude in the Mississippi Valley (Southern Illinois and Indiana), the object in view being to trace more definitely the northern limits of the so-called Austroripariau Province.  Three weeks were spent in the pursuit of this knowledge, with satisfactory results, the vicinity of Point Lookout being determined to be purely "Carolinian" in its fauna and flora, without my admixture whatever of "Asutroriparian" forms.

Fifty-six specimens of birds were added to the Museum Collection as one of the results of this trip, among the most important being materials for two groups to illustrate protective coloration, which, when put in proper shape,
