of the primitive forests of eastern North America, disappearing more rapidly than most people know, while few realize that their reproduction must require hundreds of years time, under most favorable circumstances. The views, 13 in one set, 12 in the other, are accompanied by a descriptive list, with references to pages in the "Proceedings" of the National Museum where the trees illustrated are described.

The larger set was presented to the Division of Forestry, U.S. Department of Agriculture, the other to the State Historical Society of Iowa.
