1. How has the fiscal year ending June 30, 1897, compared with the previous year, as far as as (s) the number of accessions and (b) their scientific value are concerned?

(a). The total number of accessions during the year ending June 30, 1897 was 205, of which 118 were permanent and 87 temporary, an increase in the permanent accessions of 32 over the preceding year.

(b). In scientific value the accessions of the past year compare very favorably with former ones: several of the accessions contained much material new the collections and of great value.

One of the accessions alone contained 55 species and 3 genera new to the Museum series, while the material received from Dr. W.L. Abbott adds ample series of many species hitherto barely represented in the collection.
