going off to school with little paper covered boots and slate! under arm.  All little girls in Trinidad & here wore uniform of the skirts brown or blue (serge color) with white blouses, skirts have shoulder straps.  Look awfully neat & awfully clean.

I've said before, is said to be one of poorer Grenada countries.  What chance does higher class negro, or near white of getting anywhere.  The poor seem awfully poor and the better to do, not much better off.  Yet place is beehive of industry.  Did I say nutmegs and spices are chief money crop.  The claim is made that they could supply world's needs in nutmegs.  Chief use is to flavor sausage says Bredin who visited nutmeg factory so called, sort & grade nuts quality & color leaves of nutmeg tree equal.

St. George is a hilly place with some streets as steep as San Francisco's with autos zipping up & down them.  So much so there is a tunnel through hill one cool place [[?]] in mid day.  There is a central buss area near produce market, & there are numerous busses always crowded with blacks to all parts of island it seems.  I am really amazed at number of stores and varity of goods that offered.

Country general stores (old general merchandise) are nothing as these places.  Al got quite a lot of plants up by the central labs.  Would like to spend a week here.  Was close to 9 before we got under way.  Was pretty rough and windy most of way we took following Cay and reef.
