The Officers of the New York Association have advised me that they will furnish teachers for schools in country places as soon as they can be relieved from the support of teachers in this City. A large amount of money is due the colored schols in Washington, but thus far the efforts made to secure any considerable part of it have been unavailing. I am now unable to

supply teachers for three places which are ready for them. It is very unfortunate that so much more is done in the city than in the country by the friends of the colored people, for their education.

There have been drawn from the Free Library nine hundred (900) Books: six hundred (600) by soldiers, and three hundred (300) by teachers and colored children.

Very Respectfully,
Your Obedient Servant.

Dear Sir:
[[underlined]] Alexander Plummer, [[/underlined]] who worked for you last year, wants to come back to you again, but he is out of money. The money which he brought home he had to pay out for the payment in part of his fathers house. I know that he paid $70.00 in that way. The Bureau is not paying transportation. If you will send on money to him, or to Genl. C.H. Howard, Asst. Commissioner, Freedmen's Bureau, to pay his fare, he will come on, and will have the amount taken out of his wages. I know the family and think you can trust him to do as he agrees.

Please reply to this note.

Very Respectfully Yours,

Dear Sir:
I send you a letter from [[underlined]] Miss Ketchum [[/underlined]] received by me this morning. I wish you would give me a good man in her place for Woodville, immediately.

She is a smart girl, but hardly missionary enough for the work in Maryland.

Very Respectfully Yours.
