Please send to the order of [[underlined]] W. R. Wilmer [[/underlined]]], Port Tobacco, Md. such school books as he may require for colored schools under his charge. I will be responsible that said books are paid for - as [[underlined]] Dr. Wilmer [[/underlined]] will sell them and pay you the money.

Madame:
I cannot get transportation for your children. I have asked the proper officers, but the reply from the person in charge is that this case was reported from this office Feb. 4th 1867. The within named children live with [[underlined]] [[T?]] Osborne, James Dodge, [[/underlined]] near Snickersville, London Co. Va., the other one with [[underlined]] Sarah Beans [[/underlined]], Woodgrove, which is but ten or twelve miles from Harper's Ferry, W. Va. near the mother; and in as much as they are of a sufficient age to work, the mother had better go after them. Under existing orders the Bureau will not furnish transportation for them to be sent her.
I am sorry to learn that one of the children is dead. I cannot aid you to get the other children.

I am informed that you have refused to allow the colored people to hold religious meetings in the school-house near your place. Please inform me, if you are unwilling to allow them this privilege, and why. I hoped that the result of their holding ^[[insert]] meetings [[/insert]] would be an interest in the place, the payment of the debt, and the starting of the school.

The Bureau has refused to pay transportation for any teachers. When I employed your teachers I did not promise them return transportation, but said to some of them I would do the best I could to obtain it. I hope you will be able to aid them in this matter, and give us a good number of teachers next year.
