Dear Sir:

I have the honor to state that since your last report we have aided in building twenty-two (22) schools-houses for the colored people of this Department. We have given from $200.00 to $500.00 for each school-house.

Nearly all Society teachers have been withdrawn from the District of Columbia. The schools will in future be carried on by the City Government.

Very Respectfully, Yours,

Dear Sir:

I think I have seen you in West Virginia, but am not certain. Did I meet you at Fairmount? Do the members of the school board at Moundsville want to build a school-house, and will they carry on a colored school? If so, and they have not money enough, I think Genl. [[underlined]] Howard [[/underlined]] will help to a reasonable amount. We aid in West Virginia, only in connection with the school board of the different places.

Very Respectfully, Yours,

The house at furnace Branch is done, and they are ready for a school. They had decided at Baltimore to build

a house also at Johnson's Store, and were only waiting for the deed, when things were turned over to us. I send you the only paper I have about it, and wish you would see if it ought to go on and if so push it.

I congratulate you on your reappointment.

Dear Sir:

Do you know [[underlined]] Levin W. Gaines, [[/underlined]] 82 S. Bethel St. Baltimore? He said he has taught under your Association. What sort of a man and teacher is he? He wants a position in Prince George County.

A letter from [[underlined]] Harris [[/underlined]] informes me of some trouble about a "boy" killed near his school. I hope the deed is all right for that land, if not that you will see it all right & all others, we must not let any deeds go at loose ends.

[[underlined]] Harris [[/underlined]] is comming up he says, for which I am sorry. I expect him to return, but he wants a place elsewhere. Do you think he has been & is doing well.

Please reply immediately as I expect to see him in a day or two.

Very Respectfully, Yours,
