Sir

I cannot send the teacher by Tuesday, but send her so that the school can open on on next Monday. But since writing you I have a letter from [[underlined]] George Greenleaf, [[/underlined]] saying that they cannot board a colored teacher and want a white man. I have replied that I will employ the white man if he can bring good papers and has a good examination before me. You see how the matter stands. I want to get the school started.

Respectfully Yours

Cox [[/underlined]] to aid in building a school house for a colored school at Mt. Pleasant Frederick Co. Md. The people have obtained a sufficient lot of land and have promised to build according to a plan which I have furnished and have the house done by the 1st of December if they can have the lumber in time. Mr [[underlined]] Cox [[/underlined]] is one of the School Trustees, his address is Mt. Pleasant, Fed. Co. Md.

I find that a copy of the Bill of lumber was not retained in the Office, neither is it in the A.A.A. Gen'l Office, but it the same bill, which was bought of the same partie for the school house at Damascus, Montgomery Co. Md. and cost not over $305.00. Maj. [[underlined]] Brown [[/underlined]] can furnish the lumber on this old bill.

Sir

I cannot get you more lumber for the school house, neither latter or lime. We have already furnished the usual amount of material. I hope the people will plaster the house, is schould be done.

The teacher is a Miss [[underlined]] Nelly A. Shilton [[/underlined]] from Hartford Conn. she has a very high reputation as a teacher and a lady, taught last year at Augusta Georgia, says the gentleman, who visited her school. I noticed with admiration her natural gift of teaching. I think for ready control of herself and her pupils and for tact in securing the attention of her classes in [[?ickening]] thoughts in her scholars and urging them
