Gen'l Whittlesey says that Miss [[underlined]] Towns [[/underlined]] transportation is by land except from Baltimore to Porthsmouth and he is not willing to change by way of Washington. I therefore return it to you. I will try to be with you on Monday at 11 o'clock, taking the night train from here, though I would much sooner start in the morning.

Respectfully Yours

P.S. You can have the other transportation changed to go with Miss [[/underlined]] Towns [[/underlined]] on the terms I wrote you yesterday.

Sir

Please inform the colored people that Gen'l [[underlined]] Howard [[/underlined]] will not be able to address the meeting on the 16th and I doubt if Judge [[underlined]] Bond [[/underlined]] can be obtained. I may be able to be with you, but cannot say certain. I am sorry for this disappointment. Hope these gentlemen will be able to come at some other time before long.

Your Obedient Servant

I have asked for your transportation to Spencers Landing on the Patuxent River. When you are ready to go, will you write to some one to meet you and take you to your boarding place. Boat goes on Wednesday morning 6 o'clock any week. I expect you will be ready to come as soon as transportation reaches you, which will be in time for boat one week from Wednesday.

I expect the Pa. F. R. Assoc. will support you, if not, your salary is sure. Are glad you will return.

Respectfully Yours

Do not arrange any meeting certainly for Gen'l [[underlined]] Howard [[/underlined]] and Judge [[underlined]] Bond, [[/underlined]] for I don't know that they can come. If people want meetings let them make requests or you make it for them and I will lay it before the Gen'l. Don't make positive promises that we will built houses. Stir the people up and let there be application made which I will lay before the Gen'l. See that all the houses
