Dear Sir: There are ten places in St. Mary's County, Md., needing colored teachers - men if we can get them. Also five places in Calvert County, and I will mention other places if you desire. Of the forty now in need in this part of the State, all look to me for teachers. We have aided in all these places to build good school houses. The people will pay board and incidentals & the Bureau will pay transportation and rent of school building for 12 months, so Genl. [[underlined]] O. O. Howard [[/underlined]] informed me himself this morning. He has informed you upon what conditions he will furnish this aid. One I know is that it must be a school of thirty scholars. You see that with our aid and that of the colored people a very small sum will enable you to keep a teacher in the field for eight months. I hope you will help us; the need is great.

Respectfully yours

Dear Sir: I will go to Hendon Hill on Saturday next if I can return the same day here, and if it not not an outdoor meeting (too cold and uncertain weather for that - I have just tried one in rain), and if it is not too long a ride from the rail road. Please consider me engaged if I can count upon the matters mentioned above as all right. Will you write or telegraph me tomorrow if "all right". Do I go on Philadelphia R.R. or at what station get off. If I come shall stop at Barnum's Hotel over night.

Respectfully yours
