Miss:

Your letter to Genl. [[underlined]] Howard [[/underlined]] is answered by me in in the absence of the General, who is away in Tennessee, and will not be back until Saturday if then. So you see he cannot come down. I have to go to a meeting in Caroline Co. at that time, so I cannot come. Much as I regret this still I am sure the work will go on without our presence. I congratulate you on your success. The Lord is on our side. I hope to see you in your school before many months. Please remember us to all your family, of whom we all have such happy remembrance.

Very Respectfully, Yours,

Dear Sir:

I sent you all that the Government would allow you for transportation, and all that other teachers get in like cases. We do not pay anything but actual fare by R. Road and stage; not over night or baggage through cities. I shall take from your salary the amount for books purchased during the month, and send that bill to you receipted. The remainder will be sent to your mother, as you direct. This is the rule with all teachers. You sell to scholars and retain the money.

Very Respectfully, Yours,

Supt. of Education.

P.S. You had letter sent by some one, coming over for clock paper &c.
