Dear Sir:

As the people have to pay so much for board &c. I think it is only fair that they be exempt from the $10.00 and I shall not expect them to pay it. Mrs. [[underlined]] Clark [[/underlined]] will want to go from here to reach your place so as to open school on January 1st. What will be her best way to get to you from here?

Very Respectfully, Yours

Dear Sir:

I send you papers to sign and return to me for your salary. You will sign where I have marked in pencil. Such papers will be sent each month. I also send you a register, 4 blanks, and some rules. I wish you to answer the questions in the rules immediately, and send a report of school without delay. You should have had the register a month ago, but by some mistake it was not sent.

Very Respectfully, Yours

Dear Sir:

I understand from Mr. [[underlined]] John H. Butler, [[/underlined]] our agent, that the school-house does not stand on land belonging to the colored people. I wish you to buy the land or move the house to land that you do own, immediately. It is better to buy the land if you can and not move it. Get land and have it deeded according to form which I send you. Have the deed put on record and send me a copy. And get the school in operation, and let me hear from you.

Dear Sir:

Who are the trustees of colored school at Chaptico? Is the school house done, and are you ready for a teacher? Would you like a colored lady? I expect you to prepare the house and have the [[strikethrough]] house [[/strikethrough]] school agoing without more delay. Let me hear from you.
