Dear Sir:

I applied to Genl. [[underlined]] Whittlesey [[/underlined]] for a report of Bibles &c. turned over to him by Mrs. [[underlined]] Johnson. [[/underlined]] He informs me that they were turned over to Mr. [[underlined]] Alvord [[/underlined]] and so I applied to Rev. [[underlined]] J. W. Alvord, [[/underlined]] Genl. Supt. of Education, and he informs me that they have all been [[strikethrough]] taken [[/strikethrough]] given out to freedmen's Sabbath Schools in small numbers and packages. No account was kept, but it is supposed they are doing good as intended. I am sorry that I am not able to give a more definite report, as I will do of all books sent to me.

Very Respectfully, Yours
