Dear Sir:

Mr. [[underlined]] Kimball [[/underlined]] is out of town and will not return till next week. Yours of the 18th inst. is at hand. The three teachers you refer to were here last week, and Mr. [[underlined]] Kimball [[/underlined]] proposed sending them to take charge of schools in St. Marys Co. Md.. He telegraphed to Baltimore to inquire about the boats, but in order to take the train they left for Baltimore before answer was received, for the purpose of taking passage from thence to St. Marys. Soon after they started, answer came that the boats were not running and we expected they would return that night and go from here in the morning by stage. I know of no other way for them to go. The stage leaves the Seaton House for Leonardtown, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, at 8 o'clock A.M.

Miss:

Your note was received this morning. I do not think there is any place in the District for you now. I asked one of the trustees to-day, and he said they had no money, and if they had, there were several [[strikethrough]] teachers [[/strikethrough]] applicants. There was a school last year at Oak Hill, without a house. I shall feel very badly if you are forced to return. They should go on with the school in some way. If you cannot start the school I can send you to another place in the County. I wish you to ask Mr. [[underlined]] Adams [[/underlined]] if the matter cannot be arranged so that you can go on with the school. Return to Washington if you cannot go on, and come to my office.

Very Respectfully, Yours
