Miss:

I wrote some time ago asking that you would allow me to pay your teachers in Maryland, as they are buy8ing books of me for which I have no security. If you pay me, I shall receive money for books ordered, and send the rest. [[underlined]] Payne [[/underlined]] has written me to-day asking about his salary. Please write me about this. If I do not get money through you, I shall fill no more orders for books unless the money is sent at the same time.

Very Respectfully, Yours

Gents.,

You have right to protection when molested anywhere, and if anyone comes in your school-house and conducts himself improperly, it is the duty of the law offices to arrest him, when applied to by you. I know of no law requiring you to procure license to sell Candies &c. at church or school fairs, festivals &c. Never heard of a license being asked for before. Please ask the Judge to state where the law is to be found. I should like to see it. I hope the school will go on without difficulty. If forced to go to law, it is hard for you to get justice in a Maryland Court. I trust the time is near when you will be able to protect yourselves with the ballot.

Very Respectfully, Yours

Dear Sir:

I received a letter from [[underlined]] Smallwood, [[/underlined]] and wrote him that if the salary named was not sufficient, and I found him worthy it would be increased. He has not reported himself.

I suppose the Oxford man has gone to Ann Arundel Co. Md., I sent his transportation but have not heard from him. I have no place for a white. Transportation will be received soon.

Think you will get [[strikethrough]] deserved [[/strikethrough]] desired help in South Carolina.
