Major:

I respectfully ask that eight thousand (8000) shingles be furnished to shingle one side of the roof of the school building on 13th St. bet. R and S Sts., in which schools are taught under the supervision of Mr. [[underlined]] J. C. Gove [[/underlined]] of the New England Friends Society.

The roof is in a very bad condition, making the rooms so damp that one of the teachers has just been kept out a week by a cold.

The schools are among the best in the city.

Very Respectfully, Yours.

Dear Sir:

I cannot get transportation for Mrs. [[underlined]] Clady [[/underlined]] until you conclude where to place her: so the proper officer tells me. Fix her place and I will help you.

Did I not give you the name of Miss [[underlined]] M. J. Currey [[/underlined]], from Col. Corson, as one who wants to teach? He has sent me such a name, and now wants to know what we think about employing her.

Miss:

Enclosed I send you $20,00 as you direct. I do not like to do it as I am afraid it will be lost, and do not wish that to hapen to you. I advise you to let me put your money in the savings bank, where it will draw interest, and be perfectly safe until you come up, if you do not need it.

Mr. [[underlined]] Ballantyne [[/underlined]] will send the map immediately.

Many thanks for the very interesting letter received a short time ago.

Very Respectfully Yours. [[signature]] John Kimball [[/signature]] Supt. of Education.

Dear Sir:

I am very sorry that you have cut me off from any more teachers: while I thank you for favors received, I want more of the same sort. Do you report teachers granted to the Baltimore Association and collect rent for their schools? If so, that is also expected by the Baltimore Association, as I know by conversation with Mr. [[underlined]] Core [[/underlined]] and both Societies cannot collect the same rent. Wish you had continued to help me. I now have a teacher, Miss [[underlined]] A. M. Powell [[/underlined]] teaching at "Patuxent Forks" who wants help. She is colored. Has started a school, and can do good service, if you will help her pay $15,00 per month.

Very Respectfully, Yours.
