When Mr. [[underlined]] Davis [[/underlined]] wrote for a teacher to fill Miss [[underlined]] Howell's [[/underlined]] place, it was understood he would look to the colored people to pay her board.  They must do that.  Hope you are getting on well.  Wish the school [[strikethrough]] term [[/strikethrough]] was [[strikethough]] longer [[/strikethrough]] larger, but you will have the more time for the few.  Hope you will try to teach the way of salvation without regard to R. C. Priests.  I send you $1.50 for your transportation refunded.
