Payne's friend is [[underlined]] Geo. Payne. [[/underlined]] I have assigned him to Fairfield, St. Marys Co., Md. I send herewith papers in regard to him. S. Payne asks if they are to have transportation. Hope you will inform them. Both have the same address, 147 Worcester St. New York. They intend to start soon.

Have heard nothing from [[underlined]] Messrs York, Richards and Jones. [[/underlined]] I give up the work here this week, and go to California. Your letters to me here, however, will receive due attention. Hope you will do what you can for Maryland. If you visit California I shall be glad to see you, at my future home across the Bay from San Francisco

You should send to Messrs. [[underlined]] Cushings and Bailey, [[/underlined]] 262 Baltimore St., Baltimore, for books &c. Write them and state what you want, and how the parcels should be sent.

It will be sent according to your instructions and at your risk. They will send the bill to me which I shall pay, and deduct the amount from your salary.

You must sell the books to your pupils or their parents, and charge enough over the price list to cover the expense of freight &c. Whe you order the books you had better enclose the letter. I send you today, a daily register and Blanks. You must fill out one of these blanks at the end of each mo and forward it to this office.
