Dear Sir:

I am informed that the colored people of your neighborhood want a teacher. If this be the case, please write me what accommodation you have for a school; how many children will attend &c.

I can send you an experienced colored lady but shall expect you to get up a school of at least 30 pupils, and pay the teachers board and incidental expenses of the school.

I will be responsible for her salary. Please answer soon, and give direction how she should come to your place from Washington.

Dear Sir:

Yours of the 4th inst., requesting aid in behalf of the colored people of Upper Trappe for the purpose of supporting teacher, is at hand. This Bureau does not employ teachers, but it aids Northern Societies in locating those whom they appoint, and in other ways. If you have school accommodations, and can gather "forty or fifty pupils", I can send you an experienced colored teacher, whose salary will be paid by a Philadelphia Society, but shall expect

the people to pay the teacher's board, and incidental expenses of the school. If (as you intimate) there is a competent teacher in the neighborhood with whom the people would be satisfied I think we can get this person appointed at a salary of $20. per month, which is all any of our teachers receive. Let this person write me an application and get it endorsed by the School Committee and if satisfactory I will arrange the matter.

Very Respectfully, Yours,

Gentlemen:

Yours of 19th inst. received. I am willing to be held responsible for books ordered by those teachers whose salaries are transmitted through me, for amounts not exceeding $20. each. I have already written to several of these teachers advising them to apply to you for books, and stating that you would send parcels according to their directions, that you would forward the bills to me, which I should pay deducting the amount from their salaries &c. I also requested them to enclose my letter with their order to you.

I will send you a draft for the amount of bills received from you this month as soon as the teachers accounts can be made out.

Very Respectfully, Yours,
